History before the HF-1 Electric Hydrofoil concept
Before the HF-1 concept, Ryno made a concept called Micro-Cycle. Unfortunately Ryno Motors were not able to market their electric unicycle motorbike as far as we know. They are looking for manufacturing partner, but everybody knows that many different copies are already on market in China. To protect the brand we are not going to list them. Some of the engineering solutions on Ryno Mirco-Cycle involve gyroscope and accelerometer tech for forward and backward motion. That is the basis of innovation in HF-1 Electric Hydro-Foil concept. Hydrofoil + self-balancing mechanism.
HF-1 Electric Hydro-Foil concept
The RYNO HF-1 is an electric hydrofoil watercraft. It uses a “V” shaped hydrofoil design and a tilting seat that offers the rider a highly maneuverable, quiet yet exciting recreational experience.

Origin of the idea
Chris Hoffmann has been working on Hydro-Foil models and prototypes of Hydro-Foils since his early 20s. In late 2016 these concepts came together in one final sketch that captured all the elements together for the first time. In late 2017 he reached out Charles Bombardier of Imaginactive to see what his design team could come up with to drive the style in a more product looking direction.
How it works
The main innovation isn’t the “V” shaped hydrofoil that is narrow, simulating the effect of a tire rolling on the ground, it’s the addition of a seat that’s connected to an axis of rotation set at a rake angle to allow the rider to swing themselves laterally. This allows the rider through standing on the deck of the hull with their feet, to roll the craft and the attached hydrofoils side to side to steer, while the rider’s center of mass stays perched over the center of buoyancy. A seat and handlebar allow the entire body to come into play as the rider navigates smoothly through the water.
The hydrofoil wing is designed to lift the hull of the craft off the water to offer less drag, more speed, a unique three-dimensional navigation environment and to reduce the jarring effect of piloting craft over choppy water. To keep the hydrofoil stable in the pitch direction (fore and aft) a small stabilizing fin can be used or a gyro stabilization system that adjusts the speed of the propeller in relationship to the pitch angle of the water craft. The rider would simply lean forward to accelerate and to stop would lean back. When sitting quietly in the water, the HF-1 will allow the rider to back-up, spin around and accelerate off in a different direction.
A sizable 15 kW electric motor will power a ducted propeller located at lower center of the “V” shaped hydrofoil. Lithium-ion batteries located inside the hull will supply the energy needed to propel the craft at 30 MPH over a 20-mile range. The hull has a set of access hatches to allow gear to be stored and the batteries to be removed to be easily charged indoors or from any 110-volt outlet.
What it’s Used For
The Ryno is all-electric, highly maneuverable, and dead quiet. Since it is riding on hydrofoils that product no wake and at a 20-mile range, it will allow customers to re-enter restricted waterways. It would also make a trusted addition to any luxury yacht, boat house or beachfront property.
