The DIY onewheel skateboard is made by ZblaB. ZblaB is Polish pocket sized hobby workshop in Warsaw. Original Onewheel electric skateboards are not cheap. The price is around 1400 USD – depending on the model. Add import taxes from the USA to Poland, and the price gets even higher. This Polish workshop has just posted a Youtube video with steady Onewheel DIY prototype and we think it is fantastic work!

This prototype uses two connected bldc motors, from hoverboards. Since those hoverboards have speed around 15 Km/h, the DIY ONE-WHEEL has 20.2 Km/h! This is because the hoverboard drivers ( not changed ) run the bigger wheel tire. Much bigger wheel tire in diameter + same electric motor rotation speed equals higher end speed.
Original ONEWHEEL electric skateboard team is proud of their software with numerous updates for different riding setups. This is, however, a hoverboard hack, and there is only a buzz alarm before you fall down.
This DIY electric one wheel skateboard would be impossible to make if it wasn’t for this simple hack
My attempt to build Onewheel electric skateboard with using components from cheap hoverboard. Cut green and blue wire from gyro data line, match them by colors, then connect one gyro to both channels of motor driver to get control on two motors thru one gyro. If you need to roll both motors in the same direction you have to split halls cables (yellow, green, blue) from one motor to both inputs on motherboard and change position of two from three power cables in slave motor.- ZblaB
ZblaB DIY ONEWHEEL electric skateboard build process
1. HOVERBOARD MOTORS TEARDOWN
SHIT HAPPENS. NEXT!
2. TWO MOTORS FABRICATED AND PAIRED TOGETHER ( 700+ WATT WHEEL POWER ) + FAT BRIDGESTONE TIRE
Fitting all motor parts together
Two hoverboard motors are connected with this plastic part.
The final connector for two motors was changed to aluminium for safety
3. THE DIY ONEWHEEL ELECTRIC SKATEBOARD FRAME
The frame is made out of aluminum with some CNC work and machining. There are also few plastic parts in the frame, and they are 3d printed.
ZblaB also made a nice handle for carrying the wheel.
Forget the nose dive, ZblaB took care of that also.
We expect much more builds by ZblaB in the future. LINKS: Zblab Instagram, Facebook, Youtube
