What makes a good ebike? Long-range and big power? Lightweight and compact, but with good ergonomics. Fast AND legal. High quality, but the low price. Oh, and good looking! Sounds simple, right? There is usually a compromise somewhere.
The Urban Ultralight from Zooz Bikes, a US-based company, offers no compromises. They have crafted an electric bicycle that checks all the boxes, but the result is greater than the sum of its parts.

ZOOZ HIGH-QUALITY PARTS AND EBIKE OPTIONS
A classic, chrome-plated Chromoly steel frame, reminiscent of the early days of BMX, makes you feel like a kid again but packs a serious punch that will have you outmaneuvering traffic in your city.
High-quality components like Maxxis Hookworm tires and hydraulic Tektro brakes come standard. A 48V motor and waterproof controller deliver a nominal 48V at 15 rated Amps and 25A peak for throttle speed of 20mph, but with a few pumps on the pedals, the single speed’s gear ratio can easily boost you up to 27mph.
The 17.5aH (840Wh) removable battery features Samsung 35E cells, while the large battery case is partially concealed under the unique seat design. The classic “banana” style seat provides a comfortable, upright riding position similar to a scooter. This bike is meant to throttle first, pedaling optional, but always looking cool while you’re doing it.
A lot of attention was spent on how the bike feels to ride, the seating position and the posture. Although any size rider will feel comfortable on this bike, it’s overall dimensions were kept to a minimum. Also at a minimum is the weight – just 47 lbs despite a steel frame and large battery.
WHERE CAN YOU BUY THIS E-BIKE?
Zooz has already sold 50 bikes during their discounted pre-sale campaign on their website, but we have just learned that they have another 50 on the way which can be pre-ordered for $1899. Zooz Bikes projects an MSRP of $2499 when bikes are ready to ship. They are only shipping to mainland United States addresses for this production run, but shipping is free.
If you are outside of the United States, there will be an opportunity to get one at a discounted price in September when they launch an IndieGoGo campaign with European-spec motors and batteries that will ship to the UK, EU, AUS, UAE, Canada, and Mexico. They are also considering selling frame kits for builders who would be able to order in any country.
However, they are currently about to do a giveaway on their Instagram (zoozbikes) which we hear will be worldwide. Feel free to get in touch with them to learn more on their Instagram page, website (zoozbikes.com) or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
