Blacksmith Electric Inventions Pvt. Ltd a Chennai (South India) based company recently unveiled their 2nd generation functional prototype of their Fully Electric Cruiser bike in the Global Investor meet held in Chennai last month. This bike had an amazing response from all sections of visitors of all sections of society both young & old, ladies & gentlemen and also from people in power & top bureaucrats.

The response was so overwhelming that more than 1000 brochures printed were whisked away in a couple of hours and they had to print the brochures all over again. This was the only vehicle in the whole exhibition that was offering test rides to the visitors. This is the only Bike in India which has the patented battery swapping technology which was granted wayback in 2006 when no one in the world was thinking of electric mobility.

According to Mr. Arumugam Rajendra Babu (fondly known as ARB) who is the inventor and founder of Blacksmith Electric: “We want to build the ultimate electric vehicle for the Indian people. The future is electric. We are going to sell this bike for around 2 to 2.5 lakh Indian Rupees (4250 to 5000 USD) in the year 2020. 

Currently the Blacksmith team is working on the final design touches on the production/saleable version of the vehicle meeting the Indian and International safety norms. Mr. ARB wants to make this bike the safest and powerful bike in its class and at the same time make it energy efficient and nimble so that anyone can easily drive this vehicle in India’s chaotic traffic.

Blacksmith team is also planning to lease the batteries through their patented battery swapping Kiosks so that people do not have to pay more upfront for the bike and ride without range anxiety. Blacksmith is currently discussing with some major companies and Government organisations to adopt their battery Kiosk concept for swappable batteries.

The management team at Blacksmith is a diverse group with strong skills in technology, marketing, sales, finance and operations. Their vision is to create a world without pollution, no oil, less noise and which is emission free. In the first phase the bikes will be sold in India home but in the second phase the marketing will be focussed at a global level.
